Mid-century modern cut crystal vase from Kosta Boda

460.00

This piece features super solid handblown cut crystal in an asymmetrical design with a biomorphic shaped cavity and cutting on one side that is reflected in the whole piece. The design is a fantastic example of Lindstrand’s experimentation with the optical possibilities that glass offers.

The series ‘Contrast by Asymmetry’ was designed by Vicke Lindstrand in the 50’s. Notably, it featured in a 1957 exhibition by design retailers Georg Jensen and Bonniers in New York and received outstanding praise by The New York Times.  This vase is also featured in Decorative Art Year Book by Studio Vista published 1958.

Vintage Kosta has become a hallmark of mid-century Swedish design and is highly valued by collectors. Still to this day, many of Kosta Boda’s most prestigious designers, such as Göran Wärff and Kjell Engman, have studios based on site so that they can work closely with the glass artisans.
